Assessor’s Report
Chief Deputy Assessor Lenzini announced that they expect to be turning the books over to the County Assessor’s Office tomorrow, one week earlier than expected, which may result in publication on August 21, 2008.
Supervisor’s Report
There will be a food drive at Ravinia Festival on September 7 during an all-day family event, and they will be accepting donations to be given to the pantries of both Moraine Township and a township in Cook County.
We received a copy of the Lake County Board’s Resolution to petition the State for a capital program to address highway and transit funding needs. Trustee Zaluda moved, seconded by Trustee Gamson, the Moraine Township Board issue a similar resolution to ask for highway funding from the State. Motion carried.
Food Pantry customer counts are fairly steady but slightly down from last year and the Board questioned why this might be, given the current economic conditions which have resulted in high demand at other pantries.
A few necessary adjustments have been made to the Township Health Insurance Program, Blue Cross Blue Shield, including a raise in the deductible.
Supervisor Barnes announced for public record that the Township maintains a non-partisan policy – at no time is it appropriate for any Moraine Township official to show public support for specific political candidates and the person who marched with a political candidate’s group at the Fourth of July parade while wearing a Moraine Township T-shirt had done so against policy.
The Township attorney has advised that government organizations cannot apply for 501(c)(3) status. We will continue to pursue alternatives to qualifying for the Northern Illinois Food Bank allocations.
Township Salaries
Given the absence of two trustees at this meeting, discussion will be postponed to the next Township meeting on August 28, 2008.
Committee Reports
Latino Advisory Committee – Trustee Zaluda moved, seconded by Trustee Gamson, that discussion be postponed until the next meeting. Motion carried.
Grant Committee – Trustee Gamson advised that she will be looking for partners to conduct a “How to Write a Grant” class; Supervisor Barnes suggested contacting the Welfare Council as an excellent resource.
