MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
October 23, 2008

Supervisor Barnes called the meeting to order at 7:37 PM. The following members were present:  Trustees Margoth Moreno and Cynthia Plouché and Supervisor Mari Barnes. Also Present: Trish Lenzini, Ginny Anderson, and Highland Park residents Michele Rebollar and Joe Wallace. Clerk Ellen Gussin was absent as were Trustees Gamson and Zaluda.

Approval of Minutes
The Regular Meeting Minutes of September 25, 2008 were not approved due to the lack of a quorum.

Approval of Bills
The bills were not approved due to the lack of a quorum.

Agency Presentation
Links, Ginny Anderson: Links is a social service agency located in Northfield that supports adolescents by providing resources to make informed decisions about health and sexuality. Ms. Anderson provided a summary of services provided to Moraine Township residents. She also discussed Links’ mentoring program for younger mothers up to age 21 and the agency’s collaboration with Oakton Community College to provide resources for students there.

Public Comment
Joe Wallace, a 5th grade teacher in District 187 and Highland Park resident, expressed his interest in the Latino Advisory Committee as an educator serving a largely Latino population and as the parent of Hispanic children. He was invited to make an appointment to tour the offices during regular business hours.

Michele Rebollar, Highland Park resident, attended the meeting at the suggestion of Jim Styer, chairman of the Healthcare Foundation of Highland Park. Ms. Rebollar is interested in receiving a copy of the grant submitted by the Township to the Healthcare Foundation of Highland Park for its van service, among other documents. Ms. Rebollar was directed to complete a Freedom of Information Request.

Assessor’s Report
Trish Lenzini, Chief Deputy Assessor, reported that the number of appeals filed with the Lake County Board of Review exceeded initial estimates and is approximately 1,400 with hearings getting underway October 27.

Supervisor’s Report
Supervisor Barnes reported that local schools will begin their holiday food drives soon and expects food to start coming in to the Township in mid-November. This year, she is encouraging students to volunteer at the Township office to see a more complete picture of how their donations are used.
