Township Salaries
Supervisor Barnes distributed a list of Moraine Township staff salaries at the request of Trustee Gamson. Trustee Zaluda spoke about how impressed he has been with the performance of Assessor Pete Koukos, believing he has redefined the Assessor role for Moraine Township. He added that Supervisor Barnes has similarly performed extraordinarily and has devoted the time and sensitivity to the position to earn a significant raise in salary. Discussion ensued regarding whether a $15,000 jump in the Supervisor’s salary was too great an increase at taxpayers’ expense and during a downturn in the economy. Trustee Gamson moved, seconded by Trustee Plouché, to revisit the salary increases voted upon at the last meeting and cap the Assessor salary at $74,000 and the Supervisor salary at $65,000. Upon roll call, the motion carried with four in favor and one vote cast by Trustee Moreno against the motion, believing that no increase in salary should be made at this time.
Assessor’s Report
As of this morning, 41 appeals have been filed. Chief Deputy Assessor Lenzini thinks there will be less than 1000 and probably closer to 750 total appeals.
Supervisor’s Report
Supervisory Barnes noted that copies of the Audit have been distributed for the Board’s review.
Service Learning has been taken over by retired teacher Cheryl Levy, and Supervisor Barnes is trying to engage participation by young students to help with the Township Food Pantry.
The Board should be thinking about content for the next Talk of the Township newsletter.
Committee Reports
Food Pantry – Moraine Township shared the donations of food brought to Ravinia Festival’s Family Day on September 7 with the Northern Illinois Food Drive. We received enough donations to fill a mini van.
Grant Committee – Plans are progressing with the local funding bodies to help the agencies apply for grants; various dates are being discussed for a community-wide meeting.
