Moraine Township Seniors Do Not Apply Annually for
Senior Homestead Exemption
Moraine Township Assessor Patty Powers wants senior citizens in Moraine Township to know that seniors in Lake County do NOT have to apply annually for the standard Senior Homestead Exemption.
"Many people were confused by press reports regarding annual re-applications concerning Cook County residents," noted Powers, "so we felt we should reassure our residents that this does not apply to them.
"If the resident property owner is 65, continues to reside here as their primary address and has already registered, nothing new needs to be done."
However, if senior homeowners have also received a "freeze" on their property valuations due to incomes of under $55,000, this category does require re-application each year, to stay current. The official category is Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption.
