Contact: Mari Barnes, Supervisor (847) 432-3240
For Immediate Release week of January 22, 2006
Moraine Township Supervisor Mari Barnes announced that newly revised
applications and guidelines for funding requests will be available at
the
Township office, 777 Central Avenue, Highland Park, beginning on
Friday,
January 27.
"All agencies providing direct services to Moraine Township residents
are invited to submit requests for funding support," she said.
"Because we are adopting a new application form and guidelines, the
Board recommended that we move the usual deadline up to March 1 to give
agencies time to
adjust."
This process marks the first opportunity for the new board (installed
in May, 2005) to establish fresh relationships with all agencies in and
outside of the Township that serve Township residents. They will
be assisted in the screening process by "Citizen Committee" members
recruited for this purpose.
"Exact funds available vary due to unknowns in property tax
collections, budget forecasting timing and fiscal year of the Township
(which is April 1 to March 31)," Barnes said, "but at present we are
working with the figure of $78,000 for the grant program."
That budgeted amount is in addition to the Township's financial
resources for General Assistance (direct help for individuals), and
managing the
donated goods for its Food Pantry and Clothes Closet.
"Townships are special-purpose governments, representing the
community's generosity. We hope residents will become more aware
of Moraine Township as the source of first resort for needy
residents. Think of us when you experience a hardship, or when
you want to share your good fortune.
"The grant program administers our tax-supported dollars to deserving
agencies serving Township residents and employees. We hope to
hear from everyone involved in such efforts," Barnes asserted.
